Convocation
Dear Colleague
On behalf of the Continuation Committee I have the pleasure to announce the
11th International Congress for Luther Research.
The congress will be held at the Universidade Luterana do Brasil, Canoas/RS, Brazil, from July 22 to 27, 2007 with the general theme:
Luther's ethics in the realms of church, household, politics.
The official opening will take place on Sunday, July 22, at 5 p.m. in the chapel of the Universidade Luterana do Brasil with welcoming by the University Rector and Congress patron, Pastor Ruben Eugen Becker. Prof. Dr. Gottfried Brakemeier, President of the Congress, will deliver the opening lecture.
The general theme of the congress will be developed in four plenary sessions by Antti Raunio, Finnland; Pierre Bühler, Switzerland; James M. Estes, USA; Günther Wartenberg, Germany; Ricardo W. Rieth, Brazil; Jane E. Strohl, USA; Robert Kolb, USA, and Axel Aurelius, Sweden. The languages of the Congress will be both English and German.
The congress offers several seminars. These will be open to a limited number of participants (six to ten each).
On Wednesday 25 July there will be an opportunity for the participants to give a short presentation (15 minutes) of their current research. In the afternoon of the same day there will be an excursion to the Rio Grande do Sul highlands (Serra Gaúcha), a region settled by German and Italian immigrants.
On the evening of the last day there will be a farewell banquet.
